​Invest In Our Planet - Earth Day 2022

Friday, April 22, is Earth Day, and the theme this year is Invest In Our Planet. Companies, communities, and individuals are encouraged to act boldly, innovate broadly, and implement equitably to improve the quality of life around the world.

Recommended critical actions include getting businesses more involved and financially committed to protecting and improving the earth. Progress requires profit-driven companies to look beyond the next quarterly report and seemed unattainable just a few short years ago. However, recent studies show that environmental and social consciousness does pay off, helping companies attract additional quality investors.

  • Downlite is working with high-end outdoor clothing manufacturers to develop methods of recovering the valuable fill material incorporated in their clothing. This short video discussion by the president of our Down and Feather division gives a closer look at the company and our commitment to “circularity,” i.e., planning for the eventual reuse of materials starting with the creation of a product.
  • Downlite also reinforced our commitment to sustainability and our environment by donating 1% of our e-commerce sales to 1% for the Planet. 1% for the Planet is a global organization that connects dollars and doers to accelerate effective environmental giving. They recognize that the current level of environmental giving - only 3% of total philanthropy - is not enough to solve the most pressing issues facing our Planet.
  • We plan to continue to improve the environmental footprint of our online shopping offering. Good advice for online shoppers is to use expedited service only when necessary, choose reduced packaging for products, such as our bulk pillow packs, and use the most efficient return process to minimize its carbon footprint.
